Biography

Kendra Barron is an artist, teacher, life skills coach, and yoga instructor.

She received her artistic training from Wayne Thiebaud at the University of California, Davis.  In addition, Kendra was fortunate to study with Frank Stella, Elaine DeCooning, visiting professors at Davis, and Elmer Bischoff at UC Berkeley.  After graduating, Kendra continued to study art at the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland.

Kendra has enjoyed exhibiting her work through out the Bay Area.  The sites have included Stanford University, California Institute for Integral Studies, and Diablo Valley College.  Her doors have been featured at the Olive Hyde Gallery in Fremont, SOMAR Gallery in San Francisco, and the Victor Fisher Gallery in Oakland.

Education has always been Kendra’s passion. There is no better way to learn one’s craft than to teach it.  Years of teaching Adult Education art classes took Kendra deeper into the psychological impact of the painting process.  That perspective inspired Kendra to earn a Masters Degree in Arts and Consciousness at John F. Kennedy University.  From there she went on to create a video titled “Taoism” Releasing the Power of Creativity”.

As Kendra's fascination with sacred wisdom grew, she was attracted to the study of yoga. It came as a surprise to Kendra when she ended up as an instructor. However, yoga is a creative process just like painting. It takes us into a timeless place, where we can get in touch with our essence. It presents us with a clear picture of our strengths and our challenges and provides an ideal vehicle for continued growth.

The name Kendra means "to know or understand". In Sanskrit “Kendra” translates as “center”.  The name has inspired Kendra to explore and understand how life works. In addition to her extensive reading and studies at John F. Kennedy, Kendra has trained with Angeles Arrien. It was a natural evolution to become a Personal Empowerment Coach which blends the work of intuition, education and creativity. Kendra's fascination for symbol and the intuitive process is particularly useful in doing Tarot readings, a service which is available in addition to the coaching work.

Making and sharing art as a tool of empowerment has been essential to Kendra’s explorations and fulfillment in life.  She looks forward to expanding the ways in which her art touches other people.  Books, guest lectures, workshops, and exhibits are all part of Kendra’s art empowerment plans.
